US Presidential Libraries

Q Before tackling this assignment, be sure to read about US presidential libraries, and about the idea of "civil religion." Prompt Think of the function and purpose of a US Presidential Library. In what ways is a HUMA 1301 "Intro to Humanities" course like a presidential library? Include "civil religion" somewhere in your answer, but also discuss more than just civil religion. Notes on substance and style • As always in this class, be sure to write more than one paragraph. There is only one question, but develop your answer in more than one paragraph. • Think of ideas as you write, and then explore them. Write at least several sentences for each paragraph. • There is no single "right answer" here — however, I would like to see some careful thought, and clear writing! o Be sure it's clear that you understand what "civil religion" is, and be sure you are familiar with presidential libraries. o Include specific facts about US presidential libraries in your answer, and connect them with specific facts from this class. The presidential library system is made up of fourteen presidential libraries. The idea of the library in the term is not in its usual sense. The library acts as an archive and museum where presidents store their documents and vital belongings. In his second term in office, I found that President Franklin Roosevelt came up with the idea of using private resources and later handing them to the national government as a great and bold move that is currently viewed as a symbol of national unity. As an archive and museum of some sort, it does resemble this course which also has its library. The San Antonio College library, which is not in its physical state but an online store, compares to the idea of the presidential library.
